Hogback Ridge

The Sapphires offer a great deal of relatively untouched outdoor adventures for those interested in things other than huge rock faces and saw-tooth batholiths. Only a few miles to the north of our valley is Hogback Ridge, a Forest Service plunder. Originally homesteaded in 1913, this fascinating spot along the river is 90% of what I would love to see in my future forever-homestead: huge open fields, well-running and secluded creek with no neighbors above, and tall hills on all sides with a nice view to the south. I can only imagine what it must have been like in its prime a hundred years ago.
